UNHCR guidance on infant feeding and HIV
UNHCR has recently released a brief guidance on infant feeding and HIV in the context of refugees and displaced populations. This guidance aims to assist UNHCR implementing and operational partners and governments on policies and decision-making strategies on infant feeding and HIV in refugees and displaced populations. It was prepared through collaboration between the Public Health and HIV section at UNHCR Geneva, the Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) and IBFAN-GIFA1. Inputs were provided by UNHCR country programmes and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Beginning with an overview of the current technical and programmatic consensus on infant feeding and HIV, it continues with guidance to facilitate effective implementation of HIV and infant feeding programmes in refugee and displaced situations, emergency contexts, and as an integral element of a coordinated approach to public health, HIV and nutrition programming.
