NEX 8:

Community Kitchens in Lebanon

Summary

Joyce Barakat and Linda Shaker-Berbari from the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) in Lebanon join us in a conversation about the community kitchens in Lebanon, featured in an article in NEX 8. The community kitchens were established in order to improve the nutrition status for the vulnerable Lebanese citizens and Syrian refugees living in the Bekka valley, north Lebanon.

Amongst the topics of discussion, they describe the nutrition challenges they face, governance structures and the operational management of the kitchens. Interesting insights into building social cohesion within the kitchens as well as in the wider society are discussed. They also mention the initiative to promote female entrepreneurship in the community.
