Tanya Khara
Technical Director
Tanya has more than 20 years’ experience as a public health nutritionist spanning university research contexts, INGOs, Valid International, the UN, UK government, and as an independent consultant. She has worked in multiple countries, including Angola, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. She has an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a BA in Human Science from Oxford University.
Driven by a desire to better shape and translate research into doable, effective and equitable programmes, Tanya was an integral member of the research team responsible for developing Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and subsequently supporting the uptake of the approach in countries in Africa and Asia whilst based in UNICEF. She subsequently broadened her focus, developing a number of technical reviews, exploring neglected areas in international nutrition, including maternal and adolescent nutrition, the relationship between wasting and stunting, and wasting prevention, always highlighting key opportunities for improvements in programming and policy.
Tanya joined ENN as a Technical Director in 2017 leading ENN’s body of work on the relationship between Wasting and Stunting and implications for treatment and prevention, and it’s role as learning partner in the GNC Technical Alliance. She also oversees ENN’s resource forum for practitioners, en-net and emerging areas for ENN such as nutrition sensitive food systems.
