ENN Voluntary Youth Partners
Become an ENN voluntary Youth Partner! We are excited to receive applications for our first voluntary Youth Partner roles, for the period January 2025-2026. The Youth Partners will inform the work of ENN and the Global Adolescent Nutrition Network (GANN), to help end hunger and malnutrition. The youth partners will help ensure that our work is relevant for young people, both those who are malnourished and in need of support, and those students and young professionals looking to join the nutrition sector. Becoming a Youth Partner will give you the opportunity to gain experience in an advisory role, learn what is meant by ‘good’ nutrition and how we fight malnutrition across the world, meet other like-minded youth leaders, and network with those working in the nutrition sector.
This is an unpaid voluntary position. Reasonable expenses, however, will be reimbursed for attendance at meetings in line with ENN’s policies.
Who can apply?
Applicants must:
- Be 18-24 years of age
- Have an interest in nutrition
- Speak good English
We will also be looking for, but not limited to:
- Young people living in a low- or middle-income country
- Young people who are currently studying nutrition or are interested in starting a career in nutrition/ public health/ humanitarian response
- Young people with experience of poor nutrition, adolescent pregnancy, displacement, or have overcome other hardships
- Young people who already hold experience within leadership roles in their school/ community / university, or have experience of being in a youth group
There are three Youth Partner positions available; we welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds.
Do I have to know lots about nutrition already?
No, but you do need to be interested, enthusiastic, committed and ready to contribute your opinions.
How much time will I have to give?
For both the Youth Partners and ENN to get the most out of the experience, ENN hopes the Youth Partners would be able to remain in the role with ENN for two-years.
We propose that the voluntary Youth Partners would attend 6 online meetings per year (approximately 10 hours in total over the course of a year). The meetings usually take place on a weekday during UK work hours, but we can be flexible to accommodate your schedule if needed. In addition, you may occasionally be asked to give feedback by email in between meetings (approximately 2 hours in total over the course of a year).
What happens at meetings?
Three of the meetings will be our usual online Global Adolescent Nutrition Network (GANN) expert calls where there are around 15 people present, all giving updates on what they are working on and seeking advice from one another.
The other 3 meetings of the year will be dedicated online ‘workshops’ (2 hours). People will specifically attend these meetings to discuss their work with you and the other Youth Partners. They will ask for your opinions and ideas on all kinds of things such as social media posts, research designs, materials, ways of reaching adolescents, how to motivate adolescents to eat healthy food etc. We will try to make sure the workshops are fun and engaging. You will get to discuss a variety of interesting topics, from all sorts of different organisations, all trying to end world hunger.
What’s in it for me?
As an ENN voluntary Youth Partner you will have the opportunity to learn about nutrition, you will be invited to join our webinars, you will get voluntary experience for your CV in an advisory role, you will get to meet nutrition experts from all over the world, and fellow Youth Partners with similar interests to you; and you will be able to ask for career advice and reference letters from the ENN team. You will also be reimbursed for reasonable expenses, in line with ENN’s policies, for attending online meetings (up to USD20 per meeting).
