Infant and young child feeding in emergencies (IYCF-E) is a complex area of aid, but effective communications can make a significant contribution to the wellbeing of the most vulnerable.
The purpose of these resources is to provide guidance for media communications experts, or anyone involved in humanitarian assistance who produces communications on behalf of an organisation (e.g. press releases, social media, fund raising appeals) or engages with the media (e.g. interviews). They aim to:
- Provide background on the importance of infant and young child feeding in emergencies (IYCF-E).
- Highlight the role that media communications experts play in protecting IYCF-E.
- Share recommendations, key messages and guidance on media communications around IYCF-E, use of photography and harmful messages to avoid.
- Support communications experts to provide accurate and appropriate information that protects and supports infants and young children and their caregivers and reduces harmful interventions.
